Baby safety seats

The high profile story of pop star Britney Spears neglecting her child by not using a car seat received national attention. It showed how baby safety seats are essential to protecting infants in the car. In fact, all 50 states require the use of safety seats and there are strict federal laws regulating construction of these protective devices.

When you use baby safety seats in the car apply common sense and follow the car seat's instruction manual. Very young children should always face the rear of the car, and the back seat is always the safest place for children under 12 to ride. Once your child reaches six years old you should not use a seat booster in the car.

Baby safety seats are also important in the home. Normal chairs are inappropriate for infants. In addition, experts say car seats and bouncing chairs pose dangers and should not be used in the home.
